A Look at Last Week - Team IronDean 5K

I wanted to share the fun we had at the Team IronDean 5K. Joe and I walked with Russell to support Dean in his fight against brain cancer. I don't know Dean and I don't really know his kids but I ran track with one of them back in high school. When I saw this was going on I wanted to go out and help support.

The man we were all there to support!

It was an early morning but the turnout was fantastic. It was so good to see so many folks out and ready to run. There were families with kids and plenty of folks who you could tell were serious runners. Dean himself run all sorts of races including competing in Iron Man Triathlons. That's some serious stuff right there. I even saw him running the course the day of the race which shows just how well he's been doing after all the treatments.

Gorgeous morning even though it was freezing out.

We bundled up little Russell in his stroller and walked most of the course. We turned around just after the 2 mile mark because Russell didn't seem too happy. We fed him some fish crackers on our way back to the finish line and he ended up being fine. Russell's first race ever!

Ready for action!

Once we were back we enjoyed a hot dog from J Dawgs who was one of the sponsors. If you're down in Utah County I would highly recommend checking them out. They have locations in American Fork, Orem and Provo. I feel they need to branch out up here in SLC because I would totally hit them up. YUM! It's not your average dog and their special sauce is delish. It's a sweeter sauce but top your dog with some onions and peppers and it's fabulous! Totally worth breaking your diet for one.

Breakfast of champions! J Dawgs! NOM NOM NOM!!!

We hung out to see if we won any raffle prizes which we didn't but it was still fun. It was great to see some old friends and enjoy a fun morning together.

Waiting to see if we won anything.

What would make you get up early on a weekend and walk for a cause? Do you support any specific charities by participating in walks/runs? What's your favorite race for charity?

  1. I am so sad that I ended up missing this~ Sounds like a great turn out! Keep me posted if they do another one. I am glad to hear that he is doing so well.

    1. It was totally awesome. If they do one again I'm definitely signing up. Last I heard they exceeded their $10,000 goal. :)
