The Children Are Our Future...

So today I am at home getting some rest. I hit a huge deadline last week to get a grant written in a week which was fabulous and I'm really hoping it gets funded. This week I've been feeling pretty good until yesterday after work my stomach started contracting for long periods of time. I was hoping maybe it would go away after sleeping but it was still continuing on today. I did call the Dr. and apparently it's pretty normal but I was told to drink lots of water and rest. So today here I am, catching up on all my favorite blogs and finding some new favorites too.

In case you are looking for something new to read you should check out my BFF Kim's blog ooh! piece of candy!. She shares some awesome pictures, fashion, food and so many awesome things. It's a fun blog because she's always sharing something different so I never get bored. Plus you should seriously see her latest Weekly Eye Candy post. You must see the awesome tote bag she featured. I want it. HA HA HA!

I'll try to share other blogs I'm following in the future too because there are some awesome, informative and fun blogs that I enjoy.

Ok, so since Baby Mac and I are taking a rest today I thought I'd tackle list #44 Things You Want to Teach Your Children from the 50 Lists to Write to Lift your Spirits.

1. I want my children to know that they can do anything they want to. I never want my children to think they need to do something just because I like it or because it's popular. I want them to do what makes them happy because life is too short to do something you don't love.

2. I want my children to know that no matter what happens your reputation is so important. It's one of those things that you won't even think about until it's tarnished or people stop trusting you and then you realize just how important it is to stick to your beliefs and not let anyone influence you in a negative way.

3. I want my children to know that values are important. Being honest, having integrity, being kind to others, helping those in need... All that good stuff. I would hope that if Joe and I set a good example that our children will somehow absorb that and learn to be good people too.

4. I want my children to know that they are blessed. They will have parents, grandparents, relatives and friends who love them and will take care of them. I want them to know that they have a lot and that no matter how much or how little our household income is they are truly blessed in so many ways.

5. I want my children to know that it's ok to be themselves. Whether you have 100 friends or 1 friend, whether you dress like the "in crowd" or you dress like a punk rocker or whether you are good at science or writing... It's all about being true to yourself and embracing your unique gifts and talents. Plus doing things just because "everyone is doing it" is never worth it in the long run.

I think overall I just want my children to grow up happy, healthy and well adjusted citizens. I want them to care about the world around them and about others. I want them to find something they are so passionate about they'd do it for free. I guess all you can do is be the best parent you can be and hope they turn out right. It will definitely be a new adventure for Joe and I but one we're looking forward to tackling together.

  2. AWW thanks!!! The closer I get to the baby being born the more I start to understand all those things moms would say about their kids. HE HE HE. I've definitely taken my rest seriously today. I came home and kicked my feet up, ate some lunch then took a nice long nap. Ah it's all about some relaxation. :)
