Childbirth Education Worth the Price?

So this morning's though for the day is figuring out if or which childbirth class to sign up for.

I've looked into the Bradley Method but from what I can see they don't have anyone here in Las Vegas that teaches that method.

I've looked into Hypnobirthing but there is really only one place that offers it here.  It's a couple hundred bucks for the class which we could pay but most of their reviews are old so it makes me wonder if no one recently had anything good to say.  I really started thinking that when I heard about Hypnobabies.  Many people who have done both liked Hypnobabies much more.  Of course when I looked to see if that was taught here it's not.  There's someone in NV that teaches it in northern Nevada which is not an option.

Then there's the old school Lamaze that's been around forever.  All I can think of is a bunch of pregnant women sitting in a room breathing heavily.  HE HE HOOOOO...  HE HE HOOOO...  Yeah...  I don't know that it's right for me and I hard from another person that it's kind of gotten really 'corporate' in a way.  I probably wouldn't take a Lamaze class just because it doesn't seem to fit what I'm looking for.

I have heard great things about using a doula but I guess that's more for the birth and/or after the baby is born.  Definitely something I'd consider though.

Anyway, I am really looking for a natural method.  I have no clue if I'll be the woman screaming for the drugs or if I'll have what it takes to make it through without medication.  Never having done this before I have no idea.  Plus I usually have a really high pain tolerance but since I've been pregnant I seem to be more of a baby about pain.  Yikes...

So here are the questions for today...  If you've had a baby what childbirth method did you use?  Did it do what was promised and/or would you recommend it?  Do you feel the classes are worth it?  (I'm totally that person who reads a million books/articles, watches the shows on TV, etc so it's not like I don't understand how the process of birth works.)  Any thoughts and suggestions are welcome and very appreciated.  HELP!  :)

  1. Well, I wish had some thoughts for you but of course, I have no experience with this either. I'm glad you're writing about these things though because we've been discussing making our twosome a threesome and it's interesting for me to read about other's experiences as well.

  2. Sweet! It's all about expanding the family. HE HE HE. I have a cool book that's really good to read before trying to have a baby. It's got some pretty interesting info in it. It's called Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It's pretty interesting even if you aren't trying to get pregnant. Hopefully we'll get some interesting feedback. There's so much to consider when having a baby. It's crazy!
