Let the Shopping Begin!

Yes I have a good excuse to shop this holiday season!  Joe and I got the information for the family we're adopting through HELP of Southern Nevada's Adopt-a-Family program.

We got our packet of information and it included this wonderful handwritten letter from the mother of the family we'll be treating with some fun holiday gifts.

Yeah it's hard to read but our family is a single mom and her 1 year old son.  His toy requests include Thomas the Train and a Tricycle and we've also got his clothing sizes.  I love to shop and love buying gifts so it will be fun to see what great things we can find.  We've already talked about some ideas of what we could get so we'll see what kinds of sales show up after Thanksgiving.

The information we get also suggested that if we want to get gifts for the parent they recommend things like grocery cards or food baskets.  I love the idea of a great food basket full of things we love and hope they'll like too.  We'll also probably put in some cooking tools too since we don't know what the family might have in their kitchen.

I think this will be a fun thing to do for the holidays and if it helps make one families holiday bright and cheerful then that's fabulous!  If you're looking for something like this to do over the holiday season just check out what your local non-profits are doing.  I know in town here in Vegas there are a variety of different holiday programs going on that collect food for holiday meals or gifts for kids or families.  They all vary in how much you participate from just purchasing and dropping off donations to actually wrapping and distributing gifts to the recipients.  You can look for opportunities to volunteer on websites like the Volunteer Center of Southern Nevada (yes I do work there) or find your local HandsOn Network volunteer center or other local volunteering organization.

Check back again because we'll be sure to take more pictures and share more about our adopt-a-family experience.
