25 Random Things...

Well today's lunch has been uneventful.  I am munching on a fruit cup and have had my cereal and some leftovers from yesterday, compliments of Natalie who forgot to take home her lunch.  I promise I had permission to eat it since she took today and Monday off.

Anyway I decided since I'm trying to find new blogs to follow and have recently got onto BlogFrog that I'd do a little post about me for anyone who is a new reader or maybe just doesn't know a ton about me.  So here we go...

1. I was born in Redlands, CA but grew up in Simi Valley, CA.
2. At the age of 12 my family moved to UT where I lived until I was 24.
3. At 24 I moved out on my own to Las Vegas with the guy I was dating at the time.  He was a mistake, moving here and meeting my wonderful husband made it all worth it.  :)
4. I have taken classes at 4 different schools in the 10 years since I have graduated, have a ton of credits but have yet to finish even an Associates degree.
5. The schools I've attended, in order, are Weber State University (Ogden, UT), University of Utah (Salt Lake City, UT), Colege of Southern Nevada (Las Vegas, NV) and University of Nevada Las Vegas - UNLV (Las Vegas, NV).
6. I have played the piano since the 3rd grade.
7. I used to play the organ in church during our main services.
8. The thing I liked most about church was the sense of community/caring and the music.
9. I love most any type of music.  Pop, country, rap, classical, techno, punk...  Love it!
10. I've always been the person you could easily take advantage of because I'm a people pleaser.
11. I am now learning not to worry about what others think and to form my own opinions based on facts, research and critical thinking.
12. I've learned that even facts aren't always accurate.  Science changes, research changes and the more I learn the more I realize statistics can be manipulated.  There's always another side to the story, another possibility and another opinion.
13. I value people with an open mind.  I find these days it's rare to find someone who is willing to view both sides of an argument before deciding which side is "right".  I'm tired of people who base their opinions on one side of the story without thinking there could be other possibilities.
14. I value people who are committed and hard working.  I am also tired of people with a sense of entitlement.  You were born, you got to live that's all you get in this world.  Everything and anything else you want out of this life is up to YOU to create, to purchase or to earn by hard work and dedication to your goals and dreams.
15. I've always been a creative person.  I love to do all sorts of crafts.  I now own my own sewing machine and I could probably sew an entire wardrobe if I wanted to.
16. I'm highly domestic.  I learned from my Mother all the skills you need to be a good homemaker and regardless of if I ever end up being a stay at home mom I can cook, clean and mend with the best of them.
17. I just started my very first garden this year.  My Mom always had a garden for as long as I can remember and I loved having fresh corn, tomatoes, zuchini and beets from her garden.  She also has fruit trees and there is nothing better than picking and eating something you worked so hard to grow yourself.
18. I love to read. I never make time for it any more but I used to read books like crazy! Lately I read a lot of self improvement type books but I do love a good story.  If you're on Goodreads find me because one day I'm going to read a whole lot more.
19. Joe and I have three cats.  Oreo, Panda and Minx.  They are so cute and I love them so much!  Furbabies are the best.  I believe I am only 2 cats short of becoming the crazy cat lady.  HA HA HA!!!
20. I don't love living in Las Vegas.  Yes it has it's good points at times but I think I'm at the point in my life I want a more moderate pace.  I don't need 24 hour access to sushi, dance clubs and shows thank you very much...  Plus it's too dang hot and the people drive like bats out of hell.  RUDE!
21. I miss having friends around to hang out with.  In UT there was always someone around to do something with.  Since I went to High School and some college there I knew a lot of people and we had grown up together.  I loved going to Tiff's house for cooking club or hanging out with the girls in our dorm rooms.  I don't have a lot of friends and a lot of people in Vegas seem to be very occupied in their own lives so I never want to bother anyone...  (Dang there goes that people pleasing thing again.  HA!)
22. Yes I am 100% Japanese.  Both of my parents are and their parents and probably all their family members past are.  Joe is a variety of things that basically sum up to he's white.  I hope we'll have cute kids and I really hope that all the crazy talk about mixed race kids having a harder time in life are just a bunch of crap.  I mean really is race going to be THE defining factor in my childs life?  I would certainly hope being a good parent and being involved in my kids life would play a part too...  Plus are we really that closed minded still.  REALLY?
23. One day I want to own my own business.  I'm not sure what but I would rather work hard for myself than work for someone else any day.  I do realize that I have to find something I am so passionate about that it doesn't feel like work though.
24. I'm working on going back to school for a culinary degree.  I want to finish my bachelors and finally have a degree.  I would like to finish a program where I can graduate as a Chef.  I figure if I'm going to some sort of cooking school I want to be a Chef at the end of it all.  If not I could teach myself to cook on my own.
25. I am amazed at all the random things I came up with.  It's time to get back to work.  Speaking of which here's #25...  I work as a volunteer coordinator for a non-profit organization here in Vegas.  This is my second job at a non-profit.  The first was at the Blind Center.

I hope everyone enjoys getting to know a little about me at this point in time.  Have a great day!

  1. I just learned a lot about you! thanks!

  2. YAY! Glad you checked it out. I thought instead of my usual chatter it would be fun to add something different. :)

  3. Thanks Kim! I finally got around to updating it. I like it. :)
