My Life Handbook

So my friend Kim became a fan of The Personal Excellence Blog on Facebook and I was curious enough to click on the link and see what it was about.  I am glad I did because it is an excellent resource with a lot of articles that can help you evaluate and make changes in your life.  One of the articles I came across recently was the Create Your Life Handbook article.  Celes walks you through how to create your own Life Handbook and what is in hers and offers some great examples about how you can go about putting it together.  Obviously what works for one person won't work for everyone so take what ideas work for you and put them into play.

For me I wanted something in paper that I could doodle in, post pictures in and keep track of things like goals.  I started out with a beautiful notebook that Robin put together for me and I found just too nice to use for taking phone messages in at work.  (I'll post a pic of it later.)  Currently the sections I have in my book are:

1. My Life List (basically my bucket list of things I want to do before I die...  You can catch the movie if you don't know what a bucket list is all about...)

2. My Year List (things from my bucket list that I plan to accomplish this year.)

3. My Month Page (which includes things to remember, birthdays/celebrations, things to do and more.)

For me this format works well because I can have my life list first and from that I pull things into my year list and finally those get pulled into my monthly pages.  On my monthly pages I also can log accomplishments, goals achieved, paste pictures, doodle, write poems or whatever else makes me happy at the time.  I know I will probably quickly exceed the capacity of my notebook but for me it was a good start and I figure if I want to go digital and do it on line at some point I can later.

What I realized I need to do is carry it with me.  There's no photo yet because it's at home and I'm at work on my lunch break.  Like Celes says you can use your Life Handbook to write down any Aha moments or things that impress you to keep track of those things that may come into your mind before you forget them.  I know for me I'll have an Aha moment where I realize I should do something or focus on something and as quickly as it came I've forgotten because life happens and I get busy with something else.  Starting tomorrow I will have to bring it with me when I'm out and about.

I also feel this will help in achieving my 100 Day Chalenge becasue I can put a copy of the list of things to do and check them off as I accomplish them.  I can also cross reference my Life List and my Year List to create daily action items that can help me achieve my greater goals.  I am very pleased to be focusing on moving forward and achieving my goals and since I've been doing that it truly seems that things are coming my way.

  1. Awesome! You should totally post weekly updates on how you did and what you added to your book. I like carrying around a notebook because I have those aha moments all the time.
